Semaglutide Tablet & Injection – Overview
Semaglutide is a medication used to manage type 2 diabetes and promote weight loss. It belongs to a class of drugs known as GLP-1 receptor agonists (Glucagon-like Peptide-1) and helps regulate blood sugar, improve insulin response, and control appetite.

Uses of Semaglutide Tablet
Control blood sugar in type 2 diabetes
Assist in weight loss for overweight or obese adults (off-label use in India)
May help reduce cardiovascular risk in diabetic patients
How It Works:
Semaglutide tablets mimic a natural hormone (GLP-1) that stimulates insulin release, reduces glucose production in the liver, slows stomach emptying, and reduces appetite.
Dosage:
Usually starts at 3 mg once daily, gradually increased to 7 mg or 14 mg.
Taken on an empty stomach with a small amount of water, at least 30 minutes before food.

0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, 2.4 mg (pre-filled pens or vials)
Uses:
Treatment of type 2 diabetes
Weight loss in adults with BMI ≥27 (with comorbidities) or ≥30 (obese)
Lowers risk of heart attack or stroke in diabetic patients
How It Works:
Injected once weekly under the skin (subcutaneously), semaglutide activates GLP-1 receptors, leading to improved insulin secretion, appetite suppression, and delayed gastric emptying.
Dosage:
Start: 0.25 mg weekly for 4 weeks
Titrate to: 0.5 mg → 1 mg → up to 2.4 mg weekly (as per tolerance and goal)
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, decreased appetite
Serious (rare): Pancreatitis, kidney problems, thyroid tumors (in animals)
Not recommended for patients with a history of medullary thyroid cancer
Storage:
Injection: Store in refrigerator (2°C – 8°C). Do not freeze.
Tablet: Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
