Methylene Blue Blucan Injection is a prescription medication used for:

  • Treatment of Methemoglobinemia – a rare blood disorder where hemoglobin fails to release oxygen effectively to tissues.

  • Cyanide poisoning (adjunct use)

  • Urinary antiseptic in some combination therapies

  • Staining agent in surgeries or diagnostics


How It Works:

Methylene blue works by converting methemoglobin back to normal hemoglobin, allowing it to carry oxygen properly throughout the body.


Dosage & Administration of Methylene Blue Blucan Injection

  • Administered intravenously by a medical professional.

  • Typical Dose: 1–2 mg/kg body weight as a slow IV infusion over 5 minutes.

  • Repeat dose may be given if necessary after 1 hour.

Always administered under doctor supervision in a hospital or clinical setting.


Precautions Methylene Blue Blucan Injection

  •  Not to be used in G6PD-deficient patients (risk of hemolysis)

  • Avoid with SSRIs or MAOIs due to risk of serotonin syndrome

  • Use caution in pregnant or lactating women

  • Blue/green urine or stool (harmless)

  • Headache, dizziness, nausea
