Introduction of Amoxyclav 625mg Tablet

Amoxyclav 625mg Tablet is a combination antibiotic containing Amoxicillin 500mg and Clavulanic Acid 125mg. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections affecting areas such as the lungs, ears, sinuses, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues. It may also be prescribed for certain dental and other bacterial infections.

Amoxyclav 625mg is a penicillin-type antibiotic combined with a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It is effective against susceptible bacteria that may otherwise resist amoxicillin.

It does not work against viral infections such as the common cold or flu. Antibiotics should be used only when prescribed by a qualified healthcare professional.

How Amoxyclav 625mg Works

Amoxyclav 625mg contains two medicines that work together:

Amoxicillin: Amoxicillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic. It interferes with the formation of the bacterial cell wall, which is essential for bacterial survival. This weakens the bacterial cell and can ultimately cause it to die.

Clavulanic Acid: Some bacteria produce an enzyme called beta-lactamase, which can break down amoxicillin and make it less effective. Clavulanic acid blocks beta-lactamase enzymes, helping protect amoxicillin from bacterial resistance.

Together, these medicines provide broader activity against susceptible bacteria than amoxicillin alone.

Safety Advice

Penicillin allergy: Do not take Amoxyclav if you have previously experienced a serious allergic reaction to penicillin or related beta-lactam antibiotics. Tell your doctor about any previous antibiotic allergy.

Kidney disease: Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems. The dose may need adjustment in patients with impaired kidney function.

Liver problems: Tell your doctor if you have liver disease or previously developed jaundice or liver problems after taking antibiotics. Your doctor may monitor liver function when appropriate.

Diarrhoea: Antibiotics can occasionally cause significant antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if diarrhoea is severe, persistent or contains blood, particularly during or after treatment.

Pregnancy: Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or think you may be pregnant before taking Amoxyclav. Your doctor will determine whether it is appropriate for you.

Breastfeeding: Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding before starting treatment.

Drug interactions: Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. Certain medicines, including anticoagulants and some other drugs, may require additional monitoring.

Antibiotic resistance: Do not use Amoxyclav for colds, flu or other viral infections. Unnecessary antibiotic use can contribute to antibiotic resistance.

Complete the course: Take the medicine for the full duration prescribed by your doctor, even if symptoms improve earlier.

Storage: Store Amoxyclav 625mg Tablet below 25°C, away from excessive heat and moisture.

Important: Amoxyclav 625mg is a prescription antibiotic. The strength, frequency and duration of treatment should be determined by a qualified healthcare professional based on the infection and individual patient factors.
